The Planning Commission reviews and makes recommendations to municipalities on proposed ordinance amendments as well as subdivision and land development plans. Within the Planning Commission, the Municipal/Current Planning Department provides a multitude of technical and review services to the 72 municipalities that comprise York County. The County/Long Range Planning Department is primarily responsible for the on-going development and implementation of the York County Comprehensive Plan. The Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering Department provides planning and engineering services the municipalities within the County, and is the designated agency to perform all tasks to meet federal and state transportation planning requirements. The Information Systems Component is primarily responsible for the development of a County-wide Geographic Information System or GIS. The Community Development Planning Department was designated by the County Commissioners to administer various federal, state, and other housing and community development programs and projects. These include federally funded Community Development Block Grant, Emergency Shelter Grant, and HOME Grant Programs, the state funded Weatherization and Housing and Community Development Programs, and the locally funded Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
